You noticed your Instagram account has been hacked. The first 15 minutes are critical. Read this guide and follow the steps in order.
Minute 1-3: Check Your Inbox
You might have received an "Email address changed" notification from Instagram's registration email (security@mail.instagram.com). Click the "This wasn't me" link in this email. This reverts the change and allows you to reset your password.
Minute 3-7: Verify Your Identity via Instagram
On the Instagram login screen, follow the path "Get Help → I can't access my email or phone number". If you are verifying from your registration device (the phone you first set it up on), you have a 90%+ chance of success.
Minute 7-10: Warn Your Network
The hacker may try to scam people via DM on your behalf. Send a warning message to your WhatsApp groups and other non-Instagram channels immediately: "My Instagram was hacked, don't believe any messages sent in my name."
Minute 10-15: Get Professional Support
If individual methods fail or the email address has also been changed, recovery can be done via Meta authorized agency channels. The account can be recovered using the original registration email and device IMEI information, even without knowing the password.
